# Jack London

## Biography

Jack London, born John Griffith Chaney in San Francisco on January 12, 1876, overcame a challenging youth marked by poverty and an absent father to become one of America's most celebrated authors. Largely self-educated, his early life was a whirlwind of adventures that profoundly influenced his literary career. He worked as an oyster pirate, a seal hunter, and a railroad hobo, and famously joined the Klondike Gold Rush, experiences that fueled his vivid tales of survival and the wilderness. By age thirty, London was an international sensation. His most iconic works, including The Call of the Wild, White Fang, and The Sea-Wolf, explored themes of primal instinct, human endurance, and the raw forces of nature. A prolific writer, journalist, and outspoken socialist, London produced more than fifty books before his untimely death on November 22, 1916, in Glen Ellen, California, at just 40 years old. His powerful storytelling continues to resonate with readers worldwide.
