## Biography

Henry Haven Windsor was an influential American writer, magazine editor, and publisher, best known as the founder and first editor of Popular Mechanics magazine. Born on November 13, 1859, in Mitchell, Iowa, Windsor pursued his education at Iowa College, graduating in 1884. His early career included roles at the Marshalltown Times-Republican and as a private secretary. In 1892, he established the Street Railway Review, followed by Brick and Rural Free Delivery News. Windsor launched Popular Mechanics in 1902, a publication that significantly shaped public interest in science and technology. He also published Cartoons Magazine from 1912 to 1922. Beyond his editorial work, Windsor authored several books, including the popular series The Boy Mechanic and Mission Furniture: How to Make It. He married Lina B. Jackson in 1889. Henry Haven Windsor died on May 11, 1924, in Evanston, Illinois, leaving behind a legacy of accessible technical journalism.
