# C. Leadbeater

## Biography

Charles Webster Leadbeater was an influential English author, clergyman, and prominent figure in the Theosophical Society, born in Stockport, Cheshire, in 1854. Initially ordained as an Anglican priest in 1879, his spiritual explorations led him to embrace Theosophy in 1883, after which he resigned his curacy. He became a close associate of Annie Besant, the second president of the Theosophical Society, and together they co-authored significant works exploring esoteric concepts.

Leadbeater was a prolific writer, penning over sixty books and pamphlets on occult subjects, clairvoyance, and the nature of human consciousness. His notable works include *The Astral Plane*, *Clairvoyance*, and *Man Visible and Invisible*. A highly developed clairvoyant, he conducted extensive investigations into unseen realms. He also co-initiated the Liberal Catholic Church and played a crucial role in the early life of Jiddu Krishnamurti, whom he identified as a potential World Teacher. Leadbeater spent considerable time in India and Australia, where he continued his work until his death in Perth in 1934.
