## Biography

John Arnott MacCulloch was a distinguished Scottish scholar, clergyman, and prolific author born in 1868, who dedicated his career to the study of Celtic religion and mythology. He is widely recognized as one of Scotland's foremost experts in these fields. His most influential work, "The Religion of the Ancient Celts," published in 1911, was notably conceived during an extended stay on the Isle of Skye, a location he believed offered an ideal setting to explore ancient religious practices due to its enduring language and evocative atmosphere. MacCulloch also contributed significantly to the academic world with "The Mythology of All Races," a thirteen-volume series released in 1918, along with other notable works such as "The Childhood of Fiction: A Study of Folk Tales and Primitive Thought" and "The Misty Isle of Skye." His writings helped to reconstruct and interpret Celtic paganism, portraying the Celts as deeply connected to the unseen and driven to understand the unknown through religious rites and magic. He passed away in 1950.
