## Biography

James I of England, also known as James VI of Scotland, was a monarch with notable literary inclinations. Born in 1566, he inherited the Scottish throne as an infant and later ascended to the English throne in 1603, uniting the crowns of Scotland and England. Despite a turbulent political career marked by conflicts with Parliament and a strong belief in the divine right of kings, James was a prolific writer. His published works include Daemonologie, a treatise on witchcraft, The True Law of Free Monarchies, advocating his political philosophy, and Basilikon Doron, offering advice on kingship to his son. He also penned poetry and essays. Beyond his own writing, King James famously commissioned the influential King James Version of the Bible, a monumental literary and religious achievement that profoundly shaped the English language. He was a significant patron of the arts, with drama and literature flourishing during his Jacobean era.
