# T. Rolleston

## Biography

Thomas William Hazen Rolleston, known primarily as T. W. Rolleston, was an Irish writer, poet, critic, and translator born on May 1, 1857, in Glasshouse, County Offaly. Educated at St Columba's College and Trinity College Dublin, Rolleston became a significant figure in Irish literary and cultural circles.

He was a co-founder of the Rhymers' Club in London with W. B. Yeats, though their relationship was complex. Rolleston also played a crucial role in establishing the Dublin University Review in 1885 and was involved with the Gaelic League. His diverse literary output included editing the notable anthology "A Treasury of Irish Poetry" in 1900, as well as authoring works such as "The High Deeds of Finn Mac Cumhail" and "Celtic Myths and Legends." Beyond literature, he served as the first managing director of the Irish Industries' Society, promoting Irish handicrafts. He later moved to London, working as a journalist and editor for the Times Literary Supplement, and served the Ministry of Information during World War I due to his linguistic expertise. Rolleston died in Hampstead, London, on December 5, 1920.
