# Julius Caesar

## Biography

Gaius Julius Caesar was a prominent Roman general, statesman, and author born in 100 BC. While renowned for his military and political prowess, he was also an accomplished writer, admired in his time for his clear and direct Latin prose. His most enduring literary contributions are his commentaries on his military campaigns. These include "Commentarii de Bello Gallico," detailing his conquest of Gaul between 58 and 52 BC, and "Commentarii de Bello Civili," which chronicles his civil war against Pompey. These works serve as invaluable primary sources for Roman history and are studied for their literary style. Although other writings, such as speeches and a work titled "On Analogy," are attributed to him, only his war commentaries have largely survived antiquity, solidifying his legacy as both a historical figure and a significant author.
