# F. Muller

## Biography

Friedrich Max Müller was a German-born British philologist and Orientalist, recognized as a pioneer in Vedic studies, comparative religion, and comparative mythology. Born in Dessau, Germany, on December 6, 1823, he displayed an early aptitude for languages, studying Latin, Greek, and Sanskrit. After completing his studies at the University of Leipzig, Müller moved to Paris and then to England, where he found extensive manuscript collections.

He became a central figure at Oxford University, first as a Professor of Modern European Languages and later as the inaugural Professor of Comparative Philology. Müller dedicated much of his life to making ancient Eastern texts accessible to the Western world, most notably through his monumental 50-volume series, "The Sacred Books of the East," which he edited. He became a naturalized British citizen and had four children with his wife, Georgina Adelaide Grenfell. Müller passed away in Oxford, England, on October 28, 1900, leaving a significant legacy in the academic study of languages and religions.
