# Albert Clay

## Biography

Albert Tobias Clay was an American scholar, historian, and Semitic linguist, born in Hanover, Pennsylvania, in 1866. A distinguished academic, he held professorships in Assyriology and Babylonian Literature, notably at Yale University. There, he was also instrumental in establishing the Yale Babylonian Collection, serving as its founding curator. His extensive research focused on the ancient Near East, with a particular interest in Babylonian and Israelite cultures. Clay authored numerous significant works throughout his career, including "Business Documents of Murashû Sons of Nippur," "Amurru, the Home of the Northern Semites," and "Light on the Old Testament from Babel," contributing greatly to the understanding of ancient Mesopotamian civilizations and their influence. He passed away in 1925, leaving behind a legacy of pioneering scholarship.
