## Biography

Stanley R. Matthews was the well-known pen name of William Wallace Cook, a remarkably prolific American author who skillfully navigated the literary transition from dime novels to the pulp fiction era. Under this pseudonym, Cook penned a significant body of work, with over fifty-six titles to his credit. His writing career as Stanley R. Matthews commenced with "Motor Stories" in March 1909. Primarily focusing on genres like general fiction and action-adventure, often infused with romance, Cook was celebrated for his expeditious writing style and an innate ability to construct compelling narratives. His stories, including the popular "Motor Matt" series, were recognized for their engaging plots and surprising twists, despite their rapid creation. Beyond his fictional output, Cook also devised "Plotto," a system for plot and character generation, and offered insights into his craft through his autobiographical work, "The Fiction Factory," published under the name John Milton Edwards.
