# Hester Jenkins

## Biography

Hester Donaldson Jenkins (1869-1941) was an American author and educator known for her insights into Turkish culture and history. She served as a professor at the American College for Girls in Constantinople from 1900 to 1909, an experience that deeply informed her writing. Her most recognized work, "Behind Turkish Lattices: The Story of a Turkish Woman's Life" (1911), offered a unique perspective on the lives of Turkish women, aiming to correct Western misconceptions through her direct observations. Jenkins also penned "Ibrahim Pasha: Grand Vizir of Suleiman the Magnificent" (1911), a historical account exploring the life of the influential Ottoman figure. Her other publications include "An Educational Ambassador to the Near East" and studies on social conditions. Her work provided valuable cultural and historical commentary from an early 20th-century perspective.
