# P. Barnum

## Biography

Phineas Taylor Barnum, born in Bethel, Connecticut, on July 5, 1810, was an influential American figure widely known as a showman, businessman, and politician. Beyond his celebrated career in entertainment, which included promoting famous hoaxes and co-founding the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Barnum was also a prolific author and publisher. He penned several books, often reflecting on his life and experiences. His notable works include his autobiography, "Life of P. T. Barnum" (1855), which he frequently revised throughout his life, "The Humbugs of the World" (1865), and "Struggles and Triumphs" (1869). He also offered practical advice in his popular book, "The Art of Money-Getting" (1880). Barnum's writings frequently engaged with the themes of public perception, success, and the curiosities he so skillfully showcased. He passed away in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on April 7, 1891.
