## Biography

Titus Livius, commonly known as Livy, was a distinguished Roman historian born in 59 BCE in Patavium, modern-day Padua, Italy, and died there in 17 CE. His monumental work, "Ab Urbe Condita Libri" ("Books from the Foundation of the City"), chronicled the history of Rome from its legendary origins in 753 BCE through to his own time. While originally comprising 142 books, only 35 have survived, providing invaluable accounts of early Rome and various conflicts including the Punic Wars. Livy’s approach to history was often characterized by a moral perspective, aiming to illustrate the virtues of early Romans and the impact of character on historical events. He maintained a good relationship with Emperor Augustus and was recognized for his eloquent narrative style, which set a high standard for historical writing.
