Joseph Berg Esenwein was a prominent American editor, lecturer, and prolific writer, born on May 16, 1867, in Philadelphia. Educated at various institutions including Albright College and Lafayette College, Esenwein dedicated his life to literature and education. His career spanned several notable roles, including serving as president of Albright Collegiate Institute and later as a professor of English at Pennsylvania Military College. He transitioned into the publishing world, where he managed *The Booklovers' Magazine* before becoming the editor and manager of *Lippincott's Magazine*. Esenwein was a pioneer in the field of creative writing instruction, authoring foundational texts such as *Writing the Short-Story* in 1909. He also served as editor of *The Writer's Monthly* and contributed significantly to the *Library of the World's Best Literature*. Additionally, he co-authored *The Art of Public Speaking* with Dale Carnegie, showcasing his diverse literary interests. Esenwein passed away on November 1, 1946, leaving behind a legacy of impactful contributions to American letters and pedagogy.
