## Biography

Leonard William King, born in 1869, was an esteemed English archaeologist and Assyriologist. Educated at Rugby School and King's College, Cambridge, he dedicated his career to the study of ancient Near Eastern cultures. King was known for extensively collecting stone inscriptions from the Near East and for his influential work teaching Assyrian and Babylonian archaeology at King's College. He made significant contributions to the field through his numerous publications on these subjects, including his notable translations of ancient texts like the Code of Hammurabi. He served as the Assistant Keeper of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum. King passed away in 1919 after suffering from influenza and bronchitis, leaving behind a rich legacy of scholarship.
