## Biography

Phyllis Sterling Smith was an American writer born in Berkeley, California, on August 27, 1921. She pursued her education at Stanford University from 1938 to 1941 and later at Tufts University until 1943. Her diverse career path included roles as an interview supervisor and an art instructor before she established herself as a freelance author in Berkeley, a profession she maintained from 1947 to 1996. A member of the California Writer's Club, Smith penned the novel *AI is a Three Toed Sloth* and undertook the translation of Jorge de Sena's poems, published in a bilingual edition titled *The Evidences, Poems* in 1994. Her personal interests extended to playing guitar, painting, and traveling. She married Otto J.M. Smith on September 3, 1941, and together they raised four children.
