# P. Jacob

## Biography

P. L. Jacob was the widely recognized pseudonym of Paul Lacroix, a prolific French author, journalist, and cultural historian who lived from 1806 to 1884. Born in Paris, the son of a novelist, Lacroix adopted his pen name, often appearing as "Bibliophile Jacob," reflecting his profound interest in books and libraries. His extensive body of work encompassed more than twenty historical romances and numerous scholarly historical works. He explored various aspects of cultural history, with notable contributions like the five-volume "Le moyen âge et la renaissance," co-authored with Ferdinand Séré, and "Manners, Custom and Dress During the Middle Ages and During the Renaissance Period." Lacroix was also instrumental in founding the periodical "Revue universelle des arts" in 1855, the same year he became the librarian of the esteemed Arsenal Library in Paris.
