## Biography

William Henry Wilkins (1860-1905) was an English writer, perhaps best known for his royal biographies and his involvement in immigration control campaigns. Born in Compton Martin, Somerset, he received a private education before attending Clare College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a B.A. in 1887 and an M.A. in 1899. Initially contemplating a career in the church, Wilkins instead developed a strong interest in literature and politics during his university years, becoming a Conservative and a vice-president of the Cambridge Union.

After leaving Cambridge, Wilkins served as private secretary to the Earl of Dunraven. He became a prominent voice in the debate surrounding immigration, notably through his work "The Alien Invasion" (1892). Wilkins also pursued a career as a novelist and biographer, sometimes writing under the pseudonym W. H. de Winton. His published works include historical accounts and novels, showcasing his diverse literary output before his death in 1905.
