## Biography

Anne Brontë was an English novelist and poet, born on January 17, 1820, in Thornton, Yorkshire, the youngest of the renowned Brontë siblings. Her mother died when Anne was just over a year old, and she was largely educated at home in Haworth by her clergyman father and aunt. Along with her sisters Charlotte and Emily, Anne developed a rich imaginative world. She worked for several years as a governess, an experience that profoundly influenced her first novel, *Agnes Grey*, published in 1847 under the masculine pseudonym Acton Bell. Her second and more controversial novel, *The Tenant of Wildfell Hall*, followed in 1848. Both works explored themes of women's independence and societal constraints. Anne also contributed to a collaborative volume of poetry with her sisters, *Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell*. Sadly, like her siblings, Anne's life was cut short, and she died of tuberculosis on May 28, 1849, at the age of twenty-nine.
