## Biography

Charles Vincent De Vet was an American science fiction writer born on October 28, 1911, in Fayette, Michigan, and passing away on January 5, 1997, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. De Vet was primarily known for his prolific output of over fifty short stories published in science fiction magazines, mainly during the 1950s and early 1960s. After a period of silence, he resumed writing in the late 1980s. Beyond his literary pursuits, De Vet held various professions throughout his life, including working as a pharmacist, a schoolteacher, and a U.S. postal worker. He co-authored the novel *Cosmic Checkmate*, also known as *Second Game*, with Katherine MacLean. His work is recognized for its quietly intelligent contribution to the genre.
