## Biography

Emily Post, born Emily Bruce Price in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1872, became a renowned American author and authority on social behavior. The daughter of a prominent architect, she received a private education before marrying Edwin M. Post. After her divorce in 1905, Post embarked on a literary career to support herself and her two sons. She initially wrote humorous travel books, articles on architecture and interior design, and several novels, including *Flight of a Moth* and *Purple and Fine Linen*.

Her most significant work, *Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics, and at Home*, published in 1922 when she was fifty, brought her widespread recognition. The book became a bestseller, establishing her as the definitive voice on manners and social conduct. Post's advice, rooted in common sense and consideration for others, resonated with the public, and the phrase "according to Emily Post" became synonymous with proper behavior. She expanded her influence through radio programs and a syndicated newspaper column, reaching millions. Her legacy continues through the Emily Post Institute, founded to perpetuate her work and principles of etiquette. She passed away in New York City in 1960.
