Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus, known as Pliny the Younger, was a prominent Roman lawyer, author, and magistrate who lived from approximately 61 to 113 AD. Born in Novum Comum, he was raised and educated by his uncle, Pliny the Elder, a renowned scholar. Pliny the Younger embarked on a successful legal career at a young age, earning a reputation for prosecuting corruption and specializing in cases of wills and inheritances. He rose through various civil and military offices, ultimately serving as consul in 100 AD and later as governor of Bithynia. His lasting fame stems from his extensive collection of letters, which offer invaluable insights into public and private life during the Roman Empire. These letters include vivid eyewitness accounts of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and significant correspondence with Emperor Trajan regarding administrative matters and early Christians. His writings provide a detailed and personal picture of his era.
