## Biography

Alfred Coppel, born Alfredo José de Arana-Marini Coppel in Oakland, California, on November 9, 1921, was a prolific American author known for his diverse works across several genres. A fighter pilot for the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, Coppel transitioned to a writing career after his discharge. He quickly became a prominent author for pulp magazines in the 1950s and 1960s.

Coppel was particularly recognized for his contributions to science fiction, including short stories and novels. He also penned action thrillers, political thrillers, and alternate history novels. He utilized several pseudonyms throughout his career, most notably Robert Cham Gilman for his science fiction series like the Rhada novels, and A.C. Marin. His notable works include the post-apocalyptic novel "Dark December," the bestselling political thriller "Thirty-Four East," and the alternate history novel "The Burning Mountain." Coppel passed away on May 30, 2004.
