# Andrew Lang

## Biography

Andrew Lang was a Scottish writer born on March 31, 1844, in Selkirk. A prolific and versatile author, he was a poet, novelist, literary critic, historian, and anthropologist. Lang received his education at St. Andrews University and Balliol College, Oxford, where he distinguished himself in classics. While he began his career in academia, he eventually shifted to journalism and literature. Lang is best remembered as a collector and editor of folk and fairy tales, responsible for the popular "Colour Fairy Books" series, which began with "The Blue Fairy Book" and brought numerous traditional stories to a wider audience. His diverse literary output also included translations of classical works, such as Homer's "Odyssey" and "Iliad," as well as contributions to the nascent field of psychical research. Lang's wide-ranging intellect and impressive productivity established him as a highly respected figure in the late Victorian literary world. He died on July 20, 1912.
