## Biography

Poul William Anderson was an acclaimed American author of science fiction and fantasy, known for his prolific output and rigorous attention to scientific detail. Born in Bristol, Pennsylvania, in 1926 to Danish immigrant parents, he spent part of his childhood in Denmark before his family returned to the United States. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a physics degree in 1948, a background that profoundly shaped his scientifically grounded narratives. Anderson began his professional writing career in the late 1940s, quickly establishing himself as a significant voice in speculative fiction. He authored numerous novels and short stories, often blending adventure with intellectual depth. His extensive works frequently explored themes of future history, space opera, and alternate realities, alongside powerful fantasy tales rooted in Norse mythology. Throughout his career, Anderson received widespread recognition, including multiple Hugo and Nebula Awards, and was honored as a Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
