## Biography

Bede, known as the Venerable and Saint Bede, was an English monk, scholar, and historian born around 673 in Northumbria. At the age of seven, he was entrusted to the monastery of Wearmouth and later moved to its sister monastery at Jarrow, where he spent nearly his entire life. He became a deacon at nineteen and a priest at thirty, dedicating himself to study, teaching, and writing. Bede was a prolific author, producing works on biblical commentary, theology, science, grammar, and poetry. His most significant work, "Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum" (Ecclesiastical History of the English People), completed in 731, earned him the title "Father of English History" and remains a crucial source for early English history. He died peacefully in 735, completing a translation of the Gospel of John on his deathbed. Bede's profound learning and piety led to his recognition as a saint and later as a Doctor of the Church.
