## Biography

Jesse Franklin Bone, often known as J.F. Bone, was an American science fiction author, veterinarian, and professor, born in Tacoma, Washington, on June 15, 1916. After earning a B.A. from Washington State University in 1937, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, rising to lieutenant colonel. Following his military service, Bone pursued further education, obtaining a B.S. in biology and a D.V.M., eventually becoming a respected professor of veterinary medicine at Oregon State University.

His writing career began in 1957 with the short story "Survival Type." The following year, his story "Triggerman" earned a Hugo Award nomination. Over two decades, Bone published five novels, including "The Lani People," and numerous short stories, often infusing his speculative fiction with his extensive background in veterinary medicine and a meticulous, procedural approach. Beyond fiction, he authored several influential veterinary textbooks. Jesse F. Bone passed away in 2006, leaving a legacy in both scientific and speculative literary fields.
