# Edmund Burke

## Biography

Edmund Burke was an Anglo-Irish writer, philosopher, and statesman born in Dublin in 1729. After studying at Trinity College, Dublin, he moved to London in 1750 to pursue law but soon abandoned it for a literary career. His early works quickly established his intellectual prowess. In 1756, he published A Vindication of Natural Society, a satirical critique of Enlightenment thought, followed in 1757 by A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful, a significant treatise on aesthetics that garnered international attention. Burke also became the founding editor of the influential annual publication, The Annual Register, in 1758. His literary talents were deeply intertwined with his political life, which began in 1765 as a Member of Parliament. His later writings, most notably Reflections on the Revolution in France (1790), solidified his reputation as a profound political theorist and a foundational figure of modern conservatism, showcasing his eloquent prose and incisive analysis.
