# Sylvia Jacobs

## Biography

Sylvia Jacobs was a writer with a diverse career, contributing to both science fiction and non-fiction. She began publishing science fiction stories in the 1950s, with her debut, "A Stitch in Time," appearing in *Astounding* in 1951. Over the next two decades, she contributed several more stories to the genre, including "Slave to Man." Beyond fiction, Jacobs also penned articles on technical subjects, such as "Hold That Helium!", which explored spacesuit design. Her writing extended to co-authoring the book *Marineland Diver*. Holding a doctorate, Jacobs also served as a college instructor and worked as a journalist, leading a rich and varied life that included being present in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor and extensive travel across the United States. She was also an acquaintance of fellow science fiction luminary Robert A. Heinlein.
