# Ray Bradbury

## Biography

Ray Bradbury, born August 22, 1920, in Waukegan, Illinois, was an influential American author celebrated for his imaginative works spanning fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction. After his family moved to Los Angeles in 1934, Bradbury, unable to afford college, famously educated himself by reading extensively in libraries. He began writing at a young age, publishing his first short story in 1938. While often associated with science fiction, Bradbury preferred to classify much of his work as fantasy, using scientific ideas as launchpads for his poetic narratives. His most iconic novels include the dystopian Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Throughout his prolific career, Bradbury penned hundreds of short stories, novels, essays, and screenplays, earning numerous accolades, including a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation. He passed away on June 5, 2012, leaving behind a rich literary legacy.
