## Biography

Samuel Taylor Coleridge was an influential English poet, literary critic, and philosopher, born in Ottery St. Mary, Devon, in 1772. A pivotal figure in the Romantic Movement, he is renowned for his collaborative work with William Wordsworth, most notably their groundbreaking *Lyrical Ballads* published in 1798. His most celebrated poems include "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and "Kubla Khan," which showcase his imaginative depth and unique blend of the supernatural with the meditative. Coleridge also made significant contributions to literary criticism, particularly with *Biographia Literaria*, a work that explored his literary theories and provided biographical insights. Despite his intellectual brilliance, he grappled with chronic illness and opium addiction throughout much of his life. His profound influence extended to philosophy and theology, and he helped introduce German idealist thought to England. Coleridge died in London in 1834, leaving behind a rich and enduring literary legacy.
