## Biography

Aesop is a name synonymous with timeless fables, though the actual historical figure remains largely shrouded in mystery. Believed to have lived in ancient Greece between approximately 620 and 564 BCE, he is credited as the originator of numerous moralistic tales, collectively known as "Aesop's Fables." Ancient sources, including Herodotus and Aristotle, mention him, yet no original writings by Aesop himself have survived.

Traditionally depicted as a physically unattractive slave who achieved freedom through his wit and storytelling prowess, Aesop's life is thought to be more legend than verifiable fact. Many scholars suggest he may have been an amalgamation of various storytellers whose tales were later attributed to a single, iconic figure. His enduring legacy lies in his concise narratives, which often feature anthropomorphic animals and convey universal truths and ethical lessons. These beloved stories were compiled over centuries and first appeared in English print in 1484, continuing to educate and entertain audiences worldwide.
