## Biography

Aristotle, an ancient Greek philosopher and polymath, was born in 384 BCE in Stagira, Chalcidice. The son of Nicomachus, a physician to the Macedonian king, he developed an early interest in the natural world. At seventeen, Aristotle traveled to Athens, joining Plato's Academy where he studied for two decades, transitioning from student to teacher. Following Plato's death, he tutored Alexander the Great for several years before returning to Athens to establish his own school, the Lyceum, around 335 BCE.

A prolific writer, Aristotle's intellectual scope was vast, covering logic, metaphysics, ethics, politics, biology, physics, rhetoric, and literary criticism. While he initially composed dialogues, most of his surviving works are treatises, believed to be lecture notes or manuscripts for his students. Key writings include "Nicomachean Ethics," "Politics," and "Poetics." His "Poetics" stands as a foundational text in Western literary theory, offering the earliest systematic analysis of dramatic forms and the art of storytelling. Aristotle’s rigorous methodologies and comprehensive philosophical and scientific system profoundly influenced Western thought for millennia. He died in 322 BCE in Chalcis, Euboea.
