## Biography

Arthur Charles Fox-Davies (1871-1928) was a prominent British authority on heraldry, a barrister by profession, and a prolific author. Born in Bristol, he gained widespread recognition for his definitive work, "A Complete Guide to Heraldry," published in 1909, which remains a foundational text in the field. Beyond his heraldic scholarship, Fox-Davies was also a journalist and novelist, penning several detective stories including "The Dangerville Inheritance" and "The Mauleverer Murders." He passionately championed the lawful bearing of coats of arms and served as editor of the Genealogical Magazine from 1895 to 1906. His contributions to the understanding and preservation of heraldry were significant, blending historical insight with legal exactitude.
