# F. Fitzgerald

## Biography

Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was an American novelist and short story writer, best known for his works depicting the Jazz Age, a term he popularized. Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1896, Fitzgerald attended Princeton University before joining the army during World War I. His first novel, This Side of Paradise, published in 1920, brought him immediate fame and financial success. He married Zelda Sayre, and their glamorous, often tumultuous life became a symbol of the Roaring Twenties.

Fitzgerald’s most celebrated work, The Great Gatsby, published in 1925, explored themes of wealth, illusion, and the American Dream. Despite critical acclaim for his writing, he struggled with alcoholism, financial difficulties, and his wife's mental health issues. He continued to write numerous short stories and other novels, including Tender Is the Night. Fitzgerald died in Hollywood in 1940, believing himself a failure. Posthumously, his literary reputation soared, and he is now considered one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century.
