## Biography

Marcel Proust was born on July 10, 1871, in Auteuil, a suburb of Paris, to a prominent physician father and a cultured mother. From a young age, he suffered from severe asthma, a condition that persisted throughout his life and often confined him. Despite health challenges, he developed a deep love for literature and earned degrees in philosophy and law, though his true calling was writing. Proust became known for frequenting elite Parisian salons, observations from which richly informed his later literary creations. His dedication to his craft was legendary; he famously soundproofed his bedroom with cork to facilitate his nocturnal writing schedule. Proust's magnum opus is the monumental seven-volume novel, À la recherche du temps perdu, or In Search of Lost Time, published between 1913 and 1927. This seminal work meticulously explores themes of memory, time, art, and the intricate fabric of French society. He died on November 18, 1922, leaving behind a masterpiece that profoundly influenced twentieth-century literature.
