## Biography

Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American writer, born in Chicago in 1875, who became one of the most influential figures in adventure, science fiction, and fantasy literature. Before finding his calling as an author, Burroughs pursued a variety of unsuccessful ventures, including working as a cowboy, a gold miner, and in various sales and clerical jobs. It was not until his late thirties that he began writing, and his imaginative stories quickly captivated readers. His breakthrough came with "A Princess of Mars" in 1912, but it was the creation of Tarzan of the Apes that year which solidified his enduring legacy. Burroughs penned numerous books in the Tarzan series, along with other popular sagas set on Mars (Barsoom), Venus (Amtor), and within the Hollow Earth (Pellucidar). He was a prolific storyteller, publishing dozens of novels and short stories throughout his career, which spanned into the mid-20th century. Burroughs passed away in 1950, leaving behind a vast body of work that continues to entertain and inspire new generations.
