# Bertrand Russell

## Biography

Bertrand Russell was a prominent British philosopher, logician, mathematician, and social reformer. Born in 1872 into an aristocratic family, he became an orphan at a young age and was raised by his grandparents. Russell was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he excelled in mathematics and philosophy. He became a founding figure of analytic philosophy and made significant contributions to logic and the philosophy of mathematics, most notably through his collaborative work *Principia Mathematica*. Beyond his academic pursuits, Russell was a passionate social and political activist, advocating for peace, women's rights, and nuclear disarmament. His outspoken views often led to controversy and even imprisonment. A prolific writer, he authored over 70 books and numerous essays on a wide range of topics, earning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 for his varied and significant writings. He died in 1970 at the age of 97.
