## Biography

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, born August 28, 1749, in Frankfurt, Germany, was a polymath widely considered the most influential writer in the German language. His comprehensive education in various subjects, including law, languages, and sciences, laid the groundwork for his diverse career. Goethe's early literary success came with The Sorrows of Young Werther in 1774, a groundbreaking novel of the Sturm und Drang movement. He later moved to Weimar, becoming a prominent statesman, theatre director, and privy councilor. His extensive works include poetry, novels like Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship, and scientific treatises, though his crowning achievement remains the dramatic poem Faust, which he completed in two parts over several decades. Goethe's life, marked by intellectual curiosity and creative output, solidified his legacy as a central figure in Western literature and thought. He passed away on March 22, 1832, in Weimar.
