# George Byron

## Biography

George Gordon Byron, the sixth Baron Byron, was born in London on January 22, 1788. He inherited his noble title at age ten, though his childhood was marked by a challenging relationship with his mother and a congenital clubfoot. Educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, Byron began publishing poetry early in his life. He rose to literary fame with the semi-autobiographical poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, establishing himself as a leading figure of the Romantic movement and creating the archetype of the "Byronic hero." His influential works also include the satirical epic Don Juan and the collection Hebrew Melodies. Byron's personal life was tumultuous, characterized by numerous affairs and a scandalous separation from his wife, prompting him to leave England permanently in 1816. He eventually dedicated himself to the Greek War of Independence, where he tragically died from fever in Missolonghi on April 19, 1824, becoming a national hero in Greece.
