## Biography

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, on November 30, 1874. After her mother's early death, she was raised by her maternal grandparents in Cavendish, where a solitary childhood fueled her vivid imagination and love for storytelling. Montgomery pursued higher education and worked briefly as a teacher, all while diligently developing her writing. Despite initial rejections, her most celebrated novel, Anne of Green Gables, was published in 1908 and became an immediate international bestseller, launching her successful career. She went on to publish many more novels, short stories, and poems, often set against the picturesque backdrop of Prince Edward Island. Montgomery married Reverend Ewen Macdonald and had three sons, but her life was also marked by personal struggles and periods of depression, aspects she often documented in her extensive journals. She passed away on April 24, 1942, leaving behind a beloved literary legacy that continues to enchant readers worldwide.
