## Biography

Lyman Frank Baum, born on May 15, 1856, in Chittenango, New York, preferred to be known as Frank. Before achieving literary fame, Baum pursued a remarkably diverse array of careers, including theater producer, playwright, actor, poultry farmer, traveling salesman, store owner, and newspaper editor in South Dakota and Chicago. It was in his forties that he began writing children's literature, drawing inspiration from stories he told his four sons. His first notable success came with *Father Goose: His Book* in 1899. The following year, he published his most enduring work, *The Wonderful Wizard of Oz*, which captivated readers and became a classic. Baum continued to expand the magical world of Oz, writing thirteen more books in the series. He also penned numerous other novels and short stories, often under various pseudonyms. Baum passed away on May 6, 1919, in Hollywood, California, leaving behind a beloved literary legacy that continues to enchant generations.
