# Rudyard Kipling

## Biography

Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, British India, on December 30, 1865. He was sent to England for his education, returning to India in 1882 to work as a journalist. These years in India profoundly influenced his prolific writing career, leading to many of his celebrated works. Kipling gained widespread fame for his captivating stories and poems. Among his most enduring contributions are The Jungle Book, a collection of fables set in the Indian jungle, Just So Stories, imaginative origin tales, and the novel Kim, which explores the Great Game in colonial India. His poetry, including If— and Mandalay, also resonated with audiences. In recognition of his literary achievements, Kipling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907, becoming the first English-language writer to receive the prestigious honor. He declined other accolades, such as a knighthood, throughout his life. Kipling passed away on January 18, 1936, leaving behind a vast and influential body of work.
