## Biography

James Matthew Barrie was a Scottish novelist and dramatist, best known as the creator of Peter Pan. Born on May 9, 1860, in Kirriemuir, Scotland, he was the ninth of ten children. After graduating from Edinburgh University in 1882, Barrie began his career as a journalist before moving to London to pursue writing.

He achieved early success with novels like "Auld Licht Idylls" and "The Little Minister," which drew on his Scottish upbringing. Barrie then turned to playwriting, finding considerable acclaim. His most enduring work, "Peter Pan," was first produced as a play in 1904, inspired by his friendship with the Llewelyn Davies boys. This whimsical tale of a boy who never grows up captured the imaginations of audiences worldwide. Barrie continued to write numerous successful plays and was honored with a baronetcy and the Order of Merit before his death in 1937.
