## Biography

Robert Louis Stevenson, born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on November 13, 1850, was a celebrated Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer. Coming from a family of prominent lighthouse engineers, he initially pursued engineering and later law at the University of Edinburgh, though his true passion lay in literature. Throughout his life, Stevenson battled chronic illnesses, which often influenced his desire for travel and warmer climates.

His literary career saw the creation of enduring classics such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Kidnapped. He also penned numerous essays, poems, and travelogues, displaying a versatility that cemented his reputation. Stevenson’s adventurous spirit led him to extensive travels, eventually settling with his family in Samoa in the South Pacific, where he adopted the local name "Tusitala," meaning "teller of tales." He continued to write prolifically from his island home until his death in 1894 at the age of 44. His works remain widely read and adapted, securing his place as a significant figure in literature.
