# Bram Stoker

## Biography

Abraham "Bram" Stoker was born in Clontarf, Ireland, on November 8, 1847. He endured a sickly childhood, confined to bed for his first seven years, though he later became a robust athlete at Trinity College Dublin, where he studied mathematics. After a decade working in civil service, Stoker pursued his passion for theatre, becoming the business manager for renowned actor Sir Henry Irving and London's Lyceum Theatre for twenty-seven years. This period immersed him in the vibrant literary and theatrical circles of London.

Stoker began writing fiction during this time, publishing his first novel, *The Primrose Path*, in 1875. His most enduring work, the Gothic horror novel *Dracula*, was released in 1897 and has since become a foundational text in vampire literature, profoundly influencing popular culture. Although *Dracula* brought him critical acclaim, it only achieved widespread popularity after his death. Stoker continued to write other novels and short stories, often exploring themes of the supernatural. He died in London on April 20, 1912, leaving behind a legacy as one of horror's most significant authors.
