## Biography

Jerome K. Jerome, born Jerome Klapka Jerome in Walsall, England, on May 2, 1859, was an English writer and humorist. His early life was marked by poverty following his father's financial misfortunes and subsequent death when Jerome was thirteen. Forced to leave grammar school, he held various jobs, including railway clerk, teacher, and actor, before finding his calling in writing. His first significant success came with the essay collection Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow in 1886. He married Georgina Elizabeth Henrietta Stanley Marris in 1888, and their honeymoon inspired his most enduring work, the comic travelogue Three Men in a Boat, published in 1889. This novel brought him widespread fame and financial stability. He continued to write, producing the sequel Three Men on the Bummel and numerous other novels, plays, and essays. During World War I, too old for the British army, he served as an ambulance driver for the French. Jerome published his autobiography, My Life and Times, in 1926 and passed away on June 14, 1927. His humorous works continue to entertain readers worldwide.
