## Biography

Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was born in Dublin, Ireland, on October 16, 1854, to intellectual parents. His father was a prominent surgeon, and his mother was a poet and Irish nationalist. Wilde received an exceptional education, excelling in classics at Trinity College Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford, where he became associated with the Aestheticism movement. Moving to London, he quickly rose to prominence as a playwright, poet, and novelist, celebrated for his wit and flamboyant style.

He married Constance Lloyd in 1884, and they had two sons. Wilde’s most famous works include the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and his brilliant comedies like Lady Windermere's Fan and The Importance of Being Earnest, which showcased his mastery of epigrams and social satire. However, his life took a tragic turn when he was imprisoned for gross indecency in 1895 due to his homosexual relationships, which were illegal at the time. After his release in 1897, financially ruined and in declining health, he lived in exile in France, never fully recovering his former glory. He died in Paris on November 30, 1900, at the age of 46.
