## Biography

Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva was a prominent Russian poet, prose writer, and translator, born in Moscow in 1892. Her father was a professor of art history and founder of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, while her mother was a concert pianist. Tsvetaeva displayed a prodigious talent for writing poetry from a young age, starting at six and publishing her first collection, "Evening Album," at eighteen. She was also a polyglot, writing in Russian, French, and German. In 1912, she married Sergei Efron, and they had two daughters and a son. The turbulent years of the Russian Civil War and subsequent famine brought immense hardship, including the death of her younger daughter in a state orphanage. In 1922, Tsvetaeva emigrated with her family, living in Berlin, Prague, and settling in Paris in 1925, where they faced poverty. She returned to the Soviet Union in 1939, only to face more tragedy. Her husband was executed, and her surviving daughter was sent to a labor camp. Tsvetaeva herself committed suicide in 1941 during the evacuation to Yelabuga. Her work is celebrated for its passionate voice, experimental style, and exploration of female identity and self-expression.
