# Александр Грин

## Biography

Alexander Grin, born Aleksandr Stepanovich Grinevsky in 1880, was a Russian writer renowned for his unique blend of romanticism and symbolic fantasy. His early life was marked by hardship; the son of a Polish exile, he experienced a turbulent childhood and embarked on a life of vagrancy, working various jobs including sailor and gold miner. Grin's involvement in revolutionary activities led to several arrests and exiles, shaping his perspective on freedom and its loss. He began publishing short stories in 1906, eventually adopting his famous pen name. Grin’s most celebrated works, such as "Scarlet Sails" and "She Who Runs on the Waves," transported readers to "Grinlandia," a fantastical realm brimming with adventure, the sea, and pure-hearted dreams. Despite initial popularity, his imaginative style clashed with the emerging socialist realism in Soviet literature, leading to publishing challenges and poverty in his later years. Grin passed away in 1932 in Stary Krym.
